I founded Happy Planet Running in 2017 as a result of my passion for sustainability and running. One thing always bothered me while volunteering at races: the waste.
After lots of research and lessons learned, I developed a Zero Waste business model that supports small to medium-sized race events at an affordable price, with world-class landfill diversion rates.
Rachael Rewitzer
I am a junior at the University of Michigan working towards a degree in the Environment through the Program in the Environment. I grew up having a close relationship with the environment and it quickly became my passion.
I decided to work with Happy Planet Running because it is a local business that is active in sustainability. There is no waiting around to make a real difference in my community. I love being a part of something that is local, affordable, and makes a true difference.

I am a second year grad student at the University of Michigan’s Schools for the Environment and Sustainability. I wanted to join Happy Planet Running because I resonated with its zero waste mission. Athletic events create large amounts of trash that too often go straight to landfill. Happy Planet Running has shown that it’s possible to change that.
