Run Scream Run brings Halloween to the running community a bit early, but while it’s still pretty warm and the fall colors are just getting established. And it’s a great excuse to get in some exercise with cider and donuts afterward. The event offers a 5K and 10K in the orchard and nearby pathways, concludingContinue reading “Run Scream Run 2022 Sustainability Report”

Running Between the Vines 2022 Sustainability Report
Wine in the morning isn’t the most usual thing, but toss in some running, food, and live jazz, and you get Running Between the Vines, which took place as usual at Sandhill Crane Vineyards in Jackson, MI. This event is always a challenge for the Green Team, with the need for stations in several distinctContinue reading “Running Between the Vines 2022 Sustainability Report”
The Legend 2022 Sustainability Report
What’s better than a trail run through a pretty state park? How about a bike race the next day? The Legend – so named due to its location being Sleepy Hollow State Park – has been a Saturday morning trail run for many years. New for this year was a Sunday morning bike race onContinue reading “The Legend 2022 Sustainability Report”
Tri Goddess Tri 2022 Sustainability Report
A perfect morning at Portage Lake for a swim/bike/run, or variations thereof. And it was fun seeing all the kids out there supporting their moms! We set up the Zero Waste station near the food and beer tents, and put All Waste boxes at each end of transition, swapping them out now and then. WeContinue reading “Tri Goddess Tri 2022 Sustainability Report”

Island Lake Tri Sustainability Report
A beautiful day for a triathlon, from mini-sprint to Olympic distance, at the Island Lake Rec Area. And with restrictions lifted, nearly 500 athletes turned out. We setContinue reading “Island Lake Tri Sustainability Report”
Flirt with Dirt 5K/10K Sustainability Report
This event represented a first for Happy Planet Running – leaving the Zero Waste station unattended for an entire race. Yes, perhaps a more fitting title for this was Flirt with Disaster, but I don’t get to name the races. I’m just the Trashman. How did this come about? A very fortunate event – theContinue reading “Flirt with Dirt 5K/10K Sustainability Report”

And It’s Good! Super 5K 2019 Sustainability Report
This year’s Super 5K had decent weather and a good turnout, with football regalia all about, and a visit by the Detroit Lions mascot. The Zero Waste effort scored big overall, but had several annoying fumbles by the runners. I think we had more pint glasses broken than points scored in the Super Bowl!
